| EXPERT LOGIN
Thanks for offering to become an "Expert" here on ArtistOwned.
All you need to do is post a bio and then post some articles.
We are looking for experts in each genre and as AO grows with new music and new genres, we’ll need more and more experts. The data base of articles, columns and commentary will become searchable and available to people on an ongoing basis. Of course you remain the rights holder of anything you write and may, of course, reprint it anywhere.
What we are looking for:
Reviews of individual recordings on AO – individual tracks or albums
Reviews of concerts you have recently attended
Columns about particular artists – especially those on AO, but could be about others
Columns about the industry
Columns about the directions / challenge a particular genre is facing
* If you want to discuss possible columns, essays, reviews, please contact us here.
A NOTE TO OUR MEMBERS REGARDING AO:
THANK YOU FOR BEING INTERESTED IN ARISTOWNED, FOR BEING PART OF ARTISTOWNED.
Thank you for being part of this experiment in digital music delivery - ArtistOwned.com. You are, like we are, fans of the music -of all different sorts of music and we are all trying to teach each other -about new sounds, new ideas, new collaborations (collaborations between the artist and the listener as well as supporting collaborations of different kinds of musicians) . We are also looking for new ways to interact - to share music, to support musicians, to get music, to organize music, to tell friends about new things we have heard, to load our music players with a ton of great stuff and to let it percolate through out days reminding us of how amazing it is to be alive, to be human, to hear sounds that other people have created and are sending our way and so much more.
We live in amazing times and we are all trying to make the most of it, and to make the most of acknowledging each other.
WHAT ARE THESE EXPERT REVIEWS, AND WHO ARE THESE EXPERT REVIEWERS?
ArtistOwned is committed to sharing great independent music. In the past, record companies had an important role to play in finding the kind of talents that nearly everyone could agree on. The star system worked well for America in the 50's and oddly enough, it even worked pretty well for the counter-culture of the 60s (Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, The Cream, Jefferson Airplane, Santana - all saw themselves as counter-culture bands -and they were -because they offered a new presence - and new meaning of spirit and interconnection. But as the 70's and 80's progressed the newness and the meaning of the music began to fade. Those looking for meaning had to find it away from pop music - to find it in jazz - Coltrane and his intrepid disciples (Ayler, Pharoah, Dolphy, Makanda, then in Oliver Lake, Steve Coleman, Harold Smith, Joe McPhee, The Art Ensemble), in indie rock, in alternative hip hop like The Roots, in reggae with Bob Marley and Steel Pulse, in African Music with Olatunji then Sunny Ade, Fela and then Baba Maal and others) in Afro Cuban music with Potato, Totico, Manny Oquendo, Andy and Jerry Gonzalez, in Salsa with Eddie Palmieri, Ruben Blades and so many others.
But now, the music industry is faltering. It doesn't know where to turn. CD sales are plummeting. Tower Records is a memory. People don't want to be hustled into buying crap any more. They want depth and heart. They want the real deal. They want to support the artists that are speaking loudly, clearly and bravely about what matters in this world, about matters of the heart, matters of the spirit, matters of love and war, matters of peace and of taking care of the planet and of each other.
Are the big record companies ready to put this music out? To share these ideas and spirits of the most articulate and thinking musicians? No. And that is why, all of us, together, are seeking new ways to find the music, and support the music. And that is what ArtistOwned is about.
The experts are people we are finding along the way to guide us in each genre of music. People like Marty Khan. Marty spend a lifetime in the music -first as a musician, then as a manager of the spirit - offering his services to get out music by The World Saxophone Quartet and The Art Ensemble of Chicago. Marty's take on the music is a guide. Read what he says about Betty Carter, about Coltrane, about Bill Barron, about Makanda - read his old reviews - and encourage him to reflect on what is happening now - -interact with him -respond to him - push him.
We will offer experts in every genre. And we will encourage everyone to post their own thoughts and for each of us to become both a teacher and a student. Teach what you know, learn what you can. This is how it is in life anyway - we are all, each of us learning. ArtistOwned is founded by people who have spent a lifetime in the music - and still have so much to learn.
