One of the great American radio documentaries, May 05, 2010
Dmae's "Mei Mei" is one of the seminal radio works in contemporary American radio. It is hard to fathom how influential it has been. Nearly every radio producer, and every student has heard it and been moved by it. And those who haven't, should.
The work combines documentary, narrative, poetry, music, historical re-creation, interviews and commentary. This was a ground breaking work - and why it so deservedly won a Peabody Award.
The program is deeply absorbing, and deeply moving.
